eISSN 2391-3991, DOI: 10.58183/pjps
Dear Researcher, the Polish Journal of Political Science announces a call for papers for a special issue.
Brief Introduction
Polish Journal of Political Science is an international, scholarly and peer-reviewed journal (online). This special issue of the journal will be devoted to the topic of securitisation. The theory of securitisation was introduced thirty-two years ago by Ole Wæver, who proposed the term securitisation in the context of international relations as part of his work with the Copenhagen School of security studies. It was introduced in a publication titled “Securitisation and Desecuritisation” from the Centre for Peace and Conflict Research, which outlined the concept of framing issues as existential threats through speech acts to justify exceptional measures.
The securitisation phenomenon has significantly evolved over the years and found its permanent place in literature. The editors of the Polish Journal of Political Science believe it is high time that the securitisation phenomenon be revisited since, in recent years, there has been plentiful research on the theoretical foundations of securitisation in political science, particularly focusing on environmental, economic, and military securitisation. These areas have emerged as a critical focus of inquiry due to the expanding scope of security studies beyond traditional military concerns. Since the end of the Cold War, security has broadened to include non-military issues such as environmental degradation, economic crises, and climate change, reflecting evolving global challenges (Buzan et al., 1997) (Hough, 2014).
Despite extensive scholarship, a specific problem persists in understanding how securitisation operates differently across environmental, economic, and military domains, and how these processes influence policy and political practices. The editors of the special issue of the Polish Journal of Political Science, therefore, invite submissions on all aspects of securitisation, ranging from theoretical, through thematic and longitudinal analysis of contemporary cases of securitisation phenomena from a political science perspective.
The guest editor of the special issue is Dr SLIWINSKI Krzysztof (Government and International Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University, ORCID ID: https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7316-3714 E-mail: chris@hkbu.edu.hk)
